Dec 09, 20110183;32;Sometimes I do that for the plus 12 also. The reasons for using these classifiers are (1) It is way easier and faster to pan out like sized materials and (2) It gives me instant feedback in regard to how the gold is running, [larger, smaller, roughly the same, etc.], i.e., valuable sampling information.

Aug 30, 20130183;32;17 August 2013 1100 am. Hi All, I was watching a video about sluicing and panning, the guy started with a 1/4quot; and ket going down until he used a 1/20, each time they panned the result and more, albeit smaller gold was coming through each sieve, he eventually settled on the 1/20 and then fed the sluice with this, the also ran the +20 through a separate sluice.
To improve gold recovery, it is common practice to run material through a screen to classify out the larger rocks before running the material through the recovery portion of a sluice box. In this way, less water velocity is needed through the box, which allows for a more orderly flow, and an increase in fine gold
Gold classifiers, also called sieves or screens, go hand in hand with a gold pan. Designed to fit on the top of 5 gallon plastic buckets used by most prospectors, and over most gold pans, the classifier's job is to screen out larger rocks and debris before you pan the material. Classifiers
Then we added a final set of open riffles (not covered by a classification screen) to catch any gold we might suck up that is larger than 3/8th inch (larger nuggets). For example, depending upon where you dredge, the Rogue River in Southern Oregon can produce a lot of gold in these larger sizes. But the river is loaded with fine gold, as well.
Classification is necessary to increase the amount of smaller particles of gold that you will trap in your recovery system. Perhaps one of the best screening methods is to build a classification device that you can shovel into, and which will stand directly over the top of, and drop the classified materials into,
Mar 31, 20110183;32;Re Classifier mesh size (how can you tell the size?) The finer the gold is, the higher number, or smaller mesh you must use to get the gold particle sand at the same size. You will have better recovery if you can reach this balance of size. I am still working on getting this perfected myself.
