A hay coloured wine that was almost perfumey - pepper and fresh salad on the nose. Smooth and light with a hint of pepper and even apple on the palate

Paired with the Sea Salt chocolate: I really didn't know what to expect of this pairing but was surprisingly okay - didn't blow me away though

Attractive nose of bell peppers, grass and lemon boiled sweets. Then it gets more complex in the glass, revealing other bits and bobs like gravel. Although I prefer a bit more aggression from this “savage” grape, many others will welcome the comparatively mild acid (for Sauvignon) on the palate and it does offer good value. Even though I really liked both choc and wine, I didn't have exalted hopes for their combination - but it was much better than expected, although neither wine nor choc became better as a result of the match.

The Sauvignon Blanc greets the nose with green pepper aromas and the slightest bit of fruit, quince perhaps? On the palate the wine does not disappoint with hints of citrus fruits followed a succinct finish. A well structured wine that when paired with the Lindt Sea Salt chocolate brought out the green pepper on the palate.

We should all know by now that I'd probably rather drink water than the average Sav Blanc, but this was actually one that I wouldn't turn my nose up at. A scent of cut green apples, was followed by lemon and a hint of those apples, not too acidic, but still crisp.

Pairing with the sea salt Lindt was not good, not good at all - even though I do love that chocolate.

Two good products. Enjoy them both. Separately. First let me say that I eat very little chocolate and don't actually like it that much (is this blasphemy, or at the very least letting down my own fair sex?!). But chocolate with sea salt is very yummy - perhaps because the contrast is so striking and the salt intensifies the chocolate. The Family Collection Sauvignon Blanc is a pleasing wine, despite my lukewarm enthusiasm for the cultivar. It leans towards a New Zealand style, with gooseberry on the nose (green gooseberries, not Cape gooseberries) and citrus and green pepper on the palate. Enjoy it as an aperitif, or with fish, or with just about anything except chocolate!
