This tropical delight is light honey in colour with a hint of vanilla on the nose; maybe even some tinned pear. Light and fruity on the palate; the pear also came out there with a whispering of lime.
Paired with Piore Intense (Lindt pear): Yum! The pairing really accentuates the fruit.

Fairly simple and light wine with an easy-drinking, really enjoyable palate of peaches and tinned pears. The Poire Intense is a delectable choc and nicely matches the pear character of the Chardonnay. The weight and texture of the choc overpowers the wine soon after swallowing, though.

The unwooded chardonnay does not have an overly complex nose yet offers a fair amount of tropical fruit characterized by in large by passion fruit aromas. On the palate the wine was easy drinking and characterized by citrus zest and with a crisp finish. The Lindt Poire Intense was gorgeous but did not complement the wine. Best to have the wine first and the chocolate for desert to round of what could be classified as quite a decadent afternoon.

Usually, I consider the back label of a wine to be at best a ‘selective’ interpretation, and often to be a complete fantasy and fabrication, however, for once I found myself in agreement. Indeed, there is an “abundance of tropical fruit and lime” on this unwooded chardonnay - short finish, acidic, but still pretty easy drinking.
Paired with the Lindt Pear, wasn’t the worst of the evening, the pear flavours complemented about as well as the chocolate flavours didn’t, so an even balance between good and evil.

The wine is lemon yellow in colour and has a nose of medium intensity. I pick up pineapple, a hint of white flower, and pear drops on the nose - those hard candies that come in a little tin that we used to call ‘travel sweets’. The palate is medium-bodied and tastes of pear and citrus. Flavour-wise the Poire Intense Noir is actually a very good match for this wine, but the pairing is let down by the difference in weight. The chocolate is just too rich for a relatively light, crisp wine. |
